Walt Disney World is the preferred holiday destination of hordes of vacationers every year. Over 150, 000 of these travelers per day opt to use the Walt Disney World Monorail, a public transportation system that links key Disney attractions together. Read on to learn how to get around Disney using the monorail.
1. Know the areas that the Disney monorail services. The monorail originally made a loop through the Contemporary and Polynesian Hotels to the Magic Kingdom and Transportation and Ticket Center. Later, Walt Disney World added the Grand Floridian Hotel to the monorail's route. In 1982, the park added another 4-mile stretch to the monorail tracks to connect EPCOT Center to the Magic Kingdom resort area.
2. Get tickets for the Disney monorail. The monorail system itself does not actually require tickets, but to get from certain points to others (such as from Downtown Disney to Tomorrow Land) you must show your valid Disney World ticket. Some parts of the monorail ride do not require tickets, such as the ride from the hotels to the theme parks, but unless you eventually buy a ticket to get into the theme park(s), you cannot go any further on the monorail.
3. Observe the monorail's operating hours. Routes are available between the Transportation and Ticket Center, Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center until 90 minutes after each park closes. Hotel service to the three connected Disney resorts is available until 11:00 p.m. or 2 hours after the Magic Kingdom closes, whichever happens later.
4. Use other Disney World methods of transportation. If the monorail does not meet your needs, try the Disney bus system. Every 15 to 30 minutes, buses run from Disney hotels the monorail does not service to all the theme parks, including MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach. Disney also provides boat launch transportation between various Disney Resorts, theme parks and campgrounds.
